When choosing your power kites, there are a number of options that are all designed for different types of kiting.  These come in three basic models: foil, leading edge inflatable, and supporting leading edge kits.

If you are a beginner, it’s a good idea to start with a 2 line foil kite or simply a training kite.  This is the most balanced of power kites, and has multiple open cells which are inflated as wind passes through your kite.  This open design makes it restricted to use on land, as it reduces lift compared to other models, but it will give you time to learn how to control your kite in the comfort of your local park.

A leading edge inflatable kite has inflatable “bladders” which provide the structure for your kite.  This is primarily used for kitesurfing, as the inflatable bladders allow your kite to float, but it cannot generate much lift or pull when its directly overhead.

The supporting leading edge power kite is shaped like a “C.”  This is generally for expert power kiters, as it has a wide range of “wind attack angles,” allowing the user to speed up or slow down quickly and catch wind at a number of different angles.
